Description
Eugenio Degani (1842–1901) was one of the leading Italian violin makers of the late nineteenth century and an important figure in the revival of the Venetian school.
Born in Merlara near Padua, Degani learned violin making from his father, Domenico, before establishing his own workshop. After working in Montagnana, he moved to Venice in 1888, where his influence helped shape a new generation of Venetian makers.
Degani’s instruments are admired for their strong, individual character, refined craftsmanship and distinctive modelling. His work often reflects the influence of the great Cremonese masters while retaining a recognisable personal style, with elegant scrolls, carefully cut soundholes and richly coloured varnish.
Today, his violins are highly regarded by musicians and collectors for their craftsmanship, individuality and place within the Italian violin-making tradition.
