We are delighted to be able to offer the work of world-renowned Italian violin maker Laura Vigato. Although Laura has a prestigious clientele including Itzahk Perlman, she remains very modest and prefers to concentrate on her making. Laura briefly left Brescia, hometown of Gasparo Da Salo and Maggini’s,  where she grew up, to study in the prestigious International School of Liuteria of Cremona.  After gaining her diploma, Laura returned to Brescia, where she set up her workshop. As her illustrious predecessors, Laura takes great care in selecting the wood she will use to make her very distinctive looking instruments.  She sources maple from multiple areas, usually from former Yugoslavian countries.  She lets the wood dry for 10 years before using it. The pine Laura uses is called ‘fir of resonance’ and it comes from Val di Fiemme and Val Canale in Italy.   It’s the wood that the great master makers of the past used to use. She also uses the same cutting techniques as the great master makers, namely the ‘cleft’ method that allows the wood to be cut exactly along its vein in a perfect straight line. This method is credited for increasing the acoustic qualities of instruments. Laura uses  a rich glowing amber varnish over a golden base, generally using 60 coats of varnish so the instruments she produces have a luminous finish. Her instruments are exceptionally beautiful and produce a spell-binding silky and warm sound.
