We are delighted and privileged to be able to offer instruments by the very talented Polish maker, Andrzej Kalata. Though a very discreet and quiet person, his instruments are showy, vibrant, beautiful. Andrezj was introduced to us by Patrycja, who owns a stunning violin of his.

Andrzej “Korc” Kalata was born in Podhale, Poland’s southernmost region, located in the foothills of the Tatra mountains. His passion for luthiery was evident as young boy, when he revelled in exploring and repairing folk instruments. He credits his development as a craftsman to the vast array of musical instruments and the rich folk musical culture he was immersed in during his youth, which spawned a burning interest in music, kindled and refined by fellow Podhalan luthier Wojciech Topa, who greatly influenced the developing Kalata’s work.

A versatile and humble maker, Kalata strives to tailor the tone of his instruments to complement the customer’s style. Additionally, he produces replicas of antique instruments, particularly those by esteemed Italian makers. Andrzej Kalata’s instruments are endorsed by respected musicians across the globe, with notable customers like Julius Berger, Oleg Cogan and Ron Ephrat, as well as professional clientele in Russia, Holland, Belgium, Scotland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy and the USA. We’re sure many of our professional customers will be similarly enthused about his violins, which possess remarkable quality at a modest price.

Testimonials:

“I was absolutely not looking to purchase any instrument since I was going to buy a viola I had been playing on for several years, but just out of curiosity, I wanted to try « something else » and started to look at the beautiful instruments they had brought. First, I admired the beauty of this viola, made by Andrej Kalata, which is quite dark. And then, I played on it and really fell in love with the round timbre and all the different colours I could produce”
