Lee's interest in violins originated in playing old-time southern fiddle music. After acquiring experience and training in the craft of bow making Lee went on to achieve huge success with many of his bows being played by some of the best players in the world. A couple of his clients include Guy Braunstein, Concertmaster Berlin Philharmonic, and Internationally renowned soloist Sarah Chang.
“I continue to serve musicians around the world and am happy to be working in a trade that is tremendously satisfying and infinitely challenging. I'll never learn all there is about this fascinating craft, which insures a never-ending interest in it.” Lee Guthrie
Lee's intention when making a bow for a musician is to ensure the bow matches the players unique style and technique, whilst complimenting the tone of the instrument. In order to achieve the greatest ease technically and a full, beautiful sound, Lee only uses the highest quality wood and materials.
"The qualities of Lee's bows that give confidence are those found in any fine French bow: strength, refinement and purity of tone, and superb craftsmanship. I would recommend them to any serious artist."
Steven Copes- Concertmaster, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, John M. and Elizabeth W. Musser Chair; former director, Alpenglow Chamber Music Festival.
Cardiff Violins Testimonial:
“I am absolutely delighted with Lee's bow - superb craftsmanship and what a sound it effortlessly draws out from my violin( 2005 Martin Schwalb, Vienna) I felt right at home with this bow almost from the moment I picked it up and the rich , creamy tone is a vast improvement from my old bow. It projects the sound wonderfully too. I have never enjoyed playing quite this much. Many thanks!”
Alan Mc Clure, freelance violinist, Northen Ireland.
