Sound Choice Supreme Vegan Bow For 4/4 Viola, nickel mounted
£350.00
(inc. VAT) The perfect partner for players advancing to the higher grades, the Supreme stick is perfectly balanced between stability and flexibility, enabling the player to perform sonorous and delicately-phrased melodies just as readily as technically demanding styles such as sautille which require dexterity, speed, and stability. A great deal lighter in the hand than its weight would suggest, the bow effortlessly evokes a smooth and velvety sound, and its supple quality enables the player to infuse each note with a great deal of colour, yet it remains agile enough for the owner to master the great variety of advanced bow techniques introduced in the higher grades. For a developing player, as repertoire begins to incorporate a more expansive range of musical and technical styles, versatility is vital, and this highly capable bow will be there to support you throughout all aspects of study and performance. Handmade at world famous master bow maker Ma-Rong-Di's atelier, Maestro Archetier.
The Supreme bow features a carbon-fibre stick, veneered to look like wood.
Coruss
Each Sound Choice bow is strung with our synthetic hair of choice, Coruss. Coruss is a superior quality synthetic hair, that rivals or surpasses horse hair in parameters of performance and durability, and no horses have been harmed during its production.
Rosin
The surface of horse hair is barbed; when horse hair makes contact with an instrument's strings, there is significant friction, which generates sound. The surface of Coruss synthetic hair is extremely smooth, consequently, it requires a far stickier rosin than horse hair in order to generate sound. Prior to Coruss developing Coruss rosin, we recommended customers use a base layer of Pops rosin, followed by Evah Pirazzi rosin. Now we recommend all Coruss customers use Coruss rosin; it sticks to the hair quickly, and produces a pure sound.
Is the Sound Choice: Supreme bow available to order with coloured Coruss?
As white Coruss is the most popular colour amongst our customers, we currently only stock Supreme bows strung with white hair. The Supreme bow can be strung with any coloured Coruss, though, and we can rehair the bow with your colour of choice prior to sending it to you. However, we generally encourage our customers to avoid waste by waiting untill they need to replace the white Coruss. It saves them the price of a rehair and reduces waste.
Sometimes people like to order a hank of coloured Coruss at the same time as a bow so that they have it available to have it rehaired locally whenever they need to. At Cardiff Violins, we have rehaired over 200 bows with Coruss and you can certainly send us your bow to do it (not all bow carers know how to rehair with Coruss).
