Back length: 355mm

This violin comes with a certificate from Benjamin Hebbert with the following text:

In my opinion the violin illustrated is an English violin by Edward Withers II (1844-1915), made in London around the period 1880-1900s. The violin is typical of the production of the Withers family through the late nineteenth century, and Edward Withers received instruction both from his father, and from his father's employee Jack Lott. These rather bold and somewhat idealised interpretations of del Gesu's work are a trademark model of the Wither's firm, and the softer varnish with a gentle patina is much more in keeping with work from the end of the nineteenth-century. Nevertheless, they emerge from one of the best informed and most successful traditions of copying the Guarneri style of the nineteenth-century.

The violin has a repaired soundpost crack in the back but is otherwise in a very fresh and desirable state of preservation.
