I have been making stringed musical instruments most of my life, making my first guitar in the
1960’s. Making professionally, from the early 1980’s, I have made a wide range of instruments that
have included acoustic and electric instruments of the guitar, mandolin and violin families.
In 1991, I graduated from the Welsh School of Musical Instrument Making receiving a Diploma in
Violin-Making and Repair with merit. Thereafter, I worked for a number of years in France with
respected Luthiers before returning to New Zealand to establish my own specialist violin business
(Almy Violins) in Wellington. In 2009, I returned to the UK and am now based in Bradford on
